Description

Provides basic preparation of the patient for ophthalmic tests, evaluation, or treatment ensuring quality patient services. Supports MD’s, including retina, plastics, glaucoma, and general ophthalmology:

• Less routine patients
• More complicated patient histories.
• In-basket and phone note responsibilities for their providers.
• Surgery consent and paperwork
• Special testing (including HVF’s, OCTs)
• Preps and assists for in-office procedures.
• Must be certified at COA level
• Applanation tonometry

Work Schedule 7:30-5:00

Hours/ Pay Period: 80

Requirements

Education/Experience:

Prefer:

a) Satisfactory completion of an accredited home study course in Ophthalmic Assisting or
b) Satisfactory completion of an accredited Medical Assistant or Medical Office Assistant program or
c) Equivalent related experience.

Certification through JCAHPO as an Ophthalmic Assistant is required within 1 year of hire date.

Special Knowledge/Skills/Certifications/Licenses:

a) Demonstrates knowledge of age-related growth and development principles necessary to provide appropriate service and assure safety of patients.
b) Detail oriented individual with strong human relations and organizational skills.
c) Ongoing certification as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant.
