Nemours is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician, (Full-Time), to join our Nemours Children's Hospital team in Orlando, Florida.  **$3,500 Sign on Bonus offered (external applicants only)

Located in Orlando, Fla., Nemours Children’s Hospital is the newest addition to the Nemours integrated healthcare system. Our 100-bed pediatric hospital also features the area’s only 24-hour Emergency Department designed just for kids as well as outpatient pediatric clinics including several specialties previously unavailable in the region. In keeping with our goal of bringing Nemours care into the communities we serve, we also provide specialty outpatient care in several clinics located throughout the region.

The ophthalmic technician provides individualized, age appropriate, culturally competent, goal directed and family centered care in the Ophthalmology clinic. The ophthalmic technician completes thorough medical histories and performs ophthalmological testing and ancillary procedures within his or her scope of practice. Position requires initiative and flexibility to cope with a busy pediatric practice and handle multiple task simultaneously. The employee will be expected to work well independently as well as part of a team, to foster good patient relations and to maintain patient confidentiality

  • Accurately collects health care data and documents appropriate information in patient record according to policy and training resources.
  • Independently performs and accurately documents standard ophthalmological testing/procedures within ophthalmic technician scope of practice.
  • Is responsible for professional practice and development of self and others according to scope of practice.
  • Complies with and promotes Nemours Standards of Behavior.
  • Provides safe and effective patient and family care. Maintains a safe environment for patients, families, visitors and employees.
  • Performs clerical duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma required. Specialized (1 year of training beyond high school).
  • Minimum of six (6) months experience required.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant or Certified Ophthalmic Technician preferred.
  • Must enjoy working with children. Some pediatric experience preferred.
  • Advanced medical history taking.
  • Ophthalmological testing and procedures (Visual acuity, pupil assessment, pupil dilation, fundus photography, Worth 4-dot, litmus test, measurement of intraocular pressure by Tonopen and iCare tonometry, Humphrey visual fields, motility assessment, keratometry, manual lensometry, pachymetry, automated refraction, OCTs).
  • Travel will be required to satellite locations.
