Description
Position Summary
The Ophthalmic Assistant/Technician aids physician by obtaining medical histories, performing preliminary eye function testing, review medications and procedures with patients, and perform diagnostic imaging when necessary. If certified, maintain certification through continuing education.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Demonstrate professionalism, compassion, and excellent customer service while interacting with patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, OSHA, and all applicable federal, state, and company policies and procedures.
- Review patients’ chart prior to physician exam to anticipate procedures and supplies/equipment that may be needed during the exam.
- Performing preliminary testing.
- Administer anesthetic or dilation drops.
- Properly documenting chief compliant and medical history.
- Overseeing patient flow.
- Preparing patients for procedures.
- Scribing for physicians by accurately documenting patient information, physician findings, and procedures in Nextech in accordance with established guidelines.
- Stocking, maintaining supplies, and cleaning clinic and exam rooms.
- Respond to Nextech tasks timely.
- Answer tech calls, take messages, and relay to appropriate individuals.
- Other duties as assigned: duties and responsibilities may be added, removed, or changed at any time at the discretion of the management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing.
Requirements
Basic Position Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 1 year of experience in the medical field
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Basic computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office products
- Travel to other offices when needed
Preferred Position Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of experience in ophthalmology
- Visual acuity testing
- Pupillometry screening
- Tonometry testing and reading
- Ocular motility examinations
- Working knowledge of ocular photography techniques (OCT, Fundus, etc.)
